The University of Puerto Rico School of Dental Medicine offers an Advanced Placement Program for internationally trained dentists and upon completion they will earn a Doctor of Dental Medicine degree. The program consists of a five weeks summer course followed by two years of full-time dental curriculum comprising both third and fourth years of dental school.

Requirements to apply to program

English/Spanish Language Proficiency

  • Must be proficient in the English language
  • All applicants must take the TOEFL to be considered for admission
  • Applicants whose native language is not English are required to take the TOEFL
  • Must submit original TOEFL score report directly to program (not to ADEA CAAPID)
  • Must be proficient in the Spanish language

National Board Dental Examination Requirements

  • Program requires passage of Part I of NBDE to be considered for admission
  • Submit official National Board Dental Examination scores to program (not to ADEA CAAPID) after submitting application

Letter of Evaluation

  • Program accepts up to three Letters of Evaluation
  • Program prefers one Letter of Evaluation to come from dean of dental school from which applicant graduated

Transcripts and Evaluations

  • Applicant must submit to ADEA CAAPID a detailed academic transcript evaluation by either ECE or WES
  • Other International credential evaluation service agencies that the program accepts are: (and must be submitted directly to the program not to ADEA CAAPID)

    Global Credential Evaluators

Application Fee

  • Send application fee to program (not to ADEA CAAPID) after submitting ADEA CAAPID application
  • $50 non refundable application fee

Other documents that should be sent to Pacific (not to ADEA CAAPID)

  • Send 2x2 photograph to program (not to ADEA CAAPID) after submitting ADEA CAAPID application

Additional Requirements

  • Bench test fee of $125 will be required from those applicants invited to be interviewed at UPR-School of Dental Medicine
  • A personal interview is required for admission, but does not guarantee acceptance
