The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is one
of a handful of federal agencies charged with the prevention, monitoring and
eradication of disease throughout the nation. The CDC Division of Oral Health works to integrate oral heal
programs into chronic diseases prevention efforts and medical care. With
February being National Children’s Dental Health Month, the CDC has launched its latest attack on oral infection
prevention with a new app for smartphones and tablets. The DentalCheck app is developed directly from the
Infection Prevention Checklist for Dental Settings. The infection prevention
coordinator and other faculty or staff trained in infection prevention are
encouraged to use this app to assess the status of their administrative
policies and practices.
ADEA advocates for full funding of the CDC and in particular
for the Division of Oral Health within the Chronic Disease Prevention and
Health Promotion System.
