Review of Revisions to the CODA Survey of Dental Education, Group IV – Curriculum
Tuesday, March 18
7:00 – 8:00 a.m.
For the past year a group of dental school academic deans, led by Dr. William Knight, Interim Dean at the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Dentistry, tackled the large task of re-envisioning the bi-annual CODA Survey of Dental Education, Group IV – Curriculum. The workgroup set out to review the existing survey, consider the recent advances in dental education from the past decade and suggest revisions for a new survey.
Major transformations of the survey came in its shift away from gathering data on clock hours to instead focusing on learning outcomes, as is stated in the CODA predoctoral dental education standards. The revised survey contains assessments in four sections: clinical competency, institutional learning environment, foundation knowledge and ADEA Commission on Change and Innovation documents.
In just the past two months, the revised survey has received support from the CODA Predoctoral Review Committee and the full membership of CODA. Dr. Knight and members of the workgroup will talk about the survey and next steps. This session is an opportunity for all attendees to learn about the changes to the survey and provide feedback to CODA and the Survey Committee.
