On November 4, Sen. Anitere Flores (R-FL) pre-filed S.B. 344
for the 2014 Legislative Session. The bill establishes the Dental Student Loan Repayment Program in order to encourage qualified dentists to practice in medically underserved areas or public health programs in the state in which there are shortages of such practitioners.
According to the bill, the loan program will be developed by the Department of Health in cooperation with the University of Florida College of Dentistry, the Nova Southeastern University College of Dental Medicine, the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine School of Dental Medicine, and the Florida Dental Association. S.B. 344 has been referred to committee for consideration.
