We are pleased to announce a comprehensive resource, the new ADEA United States Interactive Legislative Tracking Map, which provides a current, comprehensive and state-by-state reporting of legislation of interest to dental educators. With this innovative tool, ADEA members can view any state’s current bill status—including upcoming hearing dates—along with the bill’s text and author or sponsor information. This resource was developed by the ADEA Advocacy and Governmental Relations (ADEA AGR) Portfolio in response to member requests for more information on legislative actions that are occurring at the state level. The reality is that, in the current political environment, legislation impacting our schools and programs more often occurs at the state level than at the federal level.
To use the interactive map, visit www.adea.org/legislativemap/ and select a state to receive a detailed listing of legislation pertinent to academic dentistry. Each listing includes the legislation’s current status and, if already law, its effective date. Information on the map is updated daily.
As new bills related to dental education are introduced in each state, they will be added to the map. For those state legislatures that have not yet adjourned “sine die,” outstanding bills will continue to be displayed so members can view upcoming hearing or floor-action dates that are scheduled. The map assigns a status of “inactive” to those few states that did not pass any relevant legislation during the past session.
We encourage you to access the map regularly and share information with faculty, administrators, students, residents and fellows to keep them abreast of your state’s dental education related legislation. If you have any questions or comments, please contact Jennifer Thompson Brown, ADEA Director of State Relations, at 202-289-7201, ext. 155, or email@example.com.
