ADEA has had a long-term commitment to enhancing the diversity of the pipeline to our member schools and programs. Guided by this commitment, the ADEA Access, Diversity, and Inclusion (ADEA ADI) Portfolio supports dental schools and programs in developing diversity policies and practices that are consistent with their parent institutions. ADI is in the process of analyzing how diversity is represented in dental and parent institution websites.

Senate Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus (D-MT) and Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA), Ranking Member of Judiciary Committee, are calling on the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to ban dental clinics from participating in the Medicaid program if the dental clinics circumvent state laws designed to ensure that only licensed dentists own dental practices.

ADEA went on record regarding several areas of appropriations in early July by sending a letter to the chairman of the Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services, Education and Related Agencies in the U.S. Senate.

On May 6, 2013, ADEA sent testimony to the Senate Committee on Appropriations, Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies regarding funding for Title VII, Health Professions Programs; the Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program, Part F, Dental Reimbursement Program; and continued funding for the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research.

Concerned about how the sequestration affects ADEA’s members, the Advocacy & Government Relations portfolio partnered with the American Dental Association (ADA) and American Association for Dental Research (AADR) to pen a letter to Members of Congress.
