We are pleased to announce a comprehensive resource, the new ADEA United States Interactive Legislative Tracking Map, which provides a current, comprehensive and state-by-state reporting of legislation of interest to dental educators. With this innovative tool, ADEA members can view any state’s current bill status—including upcoming hearing dates—along with the bill’s text and author or sponsor information.

ADEA is proud to announce that the Fifth International Women’s Leadership Conference will take place September 14-16, 2014 in Barcelona, Spain. Additionally, ADEA has partnered with the Colgate-Palmolive Co. to offer participants scholarships for travel-related costs for those who otherwise would be unable to attend the conference. Logistics for this conference are being coordinated by the ADEA Access, Diversity and Inclusion (ADI) portfolio. The conference will focus on identifying and showcasing women in leadership, with a global discourse emphasis.

The Access, Diversity, and Inclusion portfolio concluded six out of 12 site visits to Summer Medical and Dental Education Programs (SMDEP) across the country. SMDEP is a six-week summer academic enrichment program generously funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation through a collaboration between ADEA and the Association of American Medical Colleges. Dr. Rick Valachovic is a Program Director of SMDEP.

Following the sunset of the American Dental Association’s Student Ambassador Program in December 2012, ADEA’s Access, Diversity, and Inclusion portfolio initiated plans to expand student engagement and diversity efforts.

Last year, ADEA partnered with University of the Pacific Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry to launch the Dental Pipeline National Learning Institute (NLI), a project of the Robert Woods Johnson Foundation. The project is an opportunity for dental educators and their community partners to address the problems of access and workforce disparities.
