Sharon Gordon HeadshotSharon M. Gordon D.D.S., M.P.H., Ph.D., has been named the next Dean of the University of Connecticut School of Dental Medicine (UConn SDM). Dr. Gordon will be the first woman to serve as Dean in the dental school’s more than 50-year history. She succeeds R. Lamont (Monty) MacNeil, D.D.S., M.D.S., who served as Dean for 12 years and who returns to UConn SDM post-sabbatical in a faculty role.

Dr. Gordon joins UConn SDM at the end of August from East Carolina University School of Dental Medicine in Greenville, NC, where she is currently the Associate Dean for Innovation and Discovery and Professor and Chair of the Department of Foundational Sciences.

Dr. Gordon was previously at the NIH and the University of Maryland, where her accomplishments were notable for creating innovative dental curriculum, and for research training and career development with an emphasis on clinicians. Her addition to UConn SDM is an exciting opportunity for the school and the university. Her background in extramurally funded research will help advance, in tandem, the clinical and research missions of the school.

Dr. Gordon received her D.D.S. from the UT Health San Antonio School of Dentistry. She completed dental residency training at San Antonio’s Medical Center Hospital, with additional residency training and fellowships at the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research. She also earned an M.P.H. in Epidemiology and a Ph.D. in Clinical Investigation at Johns Hopkins University.
