Manfredi, Ph.D., M.A., Provost and Vice-Principal Academic of McGill University,
has announced the appointment of Elham
Emami, D.D.S., Ph.D., M.Sc., as the next Dean of the McGill University
Faculty of Dentistry (McGill FOD). Dr. Emami’s five-year, renewable term will
begin on July 1, 2018, and end June 30, 2023. The Advisory Committee for the
Selection of a Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry conducted an extensive,
McGill University Board of Governors accepted the committee’s recommendation
during its meeting on Feb. 15, 2018.
Emami is an internationally recognized clinical scientist who has dedicated her
career to the promotion of oral health through service, education and research.
She is currently a Full Professor, with tenure, in the Université de Montréal Faculté
de Médecine Dentaire’s
Department of Restorative Dentistry. She is the Director of the UdeM
FMD Oral Health and
Rehabilitation Research Unit, an adjunct professor in McGill’s Faculty of
Dentistry, and a Research Associate at the Centre de recherche du Centre
hospitalier de l’Université de Montréal (CRCHUM). Much of her
multidisciplinary, practice-driven research is focused on three areas: prosthodontic
treatments, the impact of oral health on general health, and social
inequalities in rural populations.
Emami holds a Ph.D. in Biomedical Science and an M.Sc. in Prosthodontic Rehabilitation,
both from the Université de Montréal. She completed postdoctoral research in
public dental health and cancer epidemiology at McGill and the CRCHUM,
respectively. She earned her D.D.S. at Tehran University of Medical Sciences
School of Dentistry.
