The American College of Prosthodontists Education Foundation (ACPEF) has launched an initiative to create a comprehensive digital dentistry curriculum for predoctoral and advanced dental education programs. A large group of educators have volunteered as part of the curricular development process that began in 2016. The Task Force leading this initiative includes Stephen Campbell, D.D.S., M.M.Sc., and Lyndon Cooper, D.D.S., Ph.D., of the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Dentistry; Lily Garcia, D.D.S., M.S., FACP, of The University of Iowa College of Dentistry & Dental Clinics; and Carol Lefebvre, D.D.S., M.S., Dean of the Dental College of Georgia at Augusta University. The entire digital curriculum team is comprised of 50 volunteers from 33 institutions.

The initiative began in November 2015 with the creation of an outline of the curriculum. An initial draft of the Digital Dentistry Curriculum for both predoctoral and advanced dental education programs was created. The next phase of the project included recruiting five dental schools to pilot the curriculum beginning in fall 2017. The purpose of the piloting phase is to test the digital dentistry curriculum, and further refine before becoming an available resource to dental schools nationwide in 2018.
