“The relentless pursuit of strategic alliances.” This mantra comes from ADEA President and CEO Richard Valachovic, D.M.D., M.P.H., and is echoed by ADEA staff and volunteers alike, including the ADEA Council of Students, Residents and Fellows (ADEA COSRF). In 2016, ADEA COSRF leadership began
discussing how they might leverage the dental student community to advance important issues in dental education. Their desire to create strategic alliances across student organizations will culminate in the first ADEA Summit for National Student Leaders, which will take place on Monday, March 19 during
the 2018 ADEA Annual Session & Exhibition in Orlando.
This important convening unites national student leaders from key organizations across the dental education community, including the American Association of Women Dentists, American Student Dental Association, Hispanic Dental Association, Student National Dental Association, Student
Professionalism and Ethics Association, and Society of American Indian Dentists. Attendees will acquire a better understanding of their respective organizations and identify mutual interests and opportunities for collaboration at national and local levels. By cultivating relationships across
organizations, the student leaders hope to better appreciate the impact and relevance of each organization in dental education, set and achieve goals related to advocacy and outreach by tapping into their collective synergies, and inspire their colleagues to work toward an even brighter future for dental
practice and dental education.
Key meeting outcomes include developing an action plan centered on framing their collaborative efforts for the coming year, identifying ways to communicate the plan to organizational members, and monitoring and celebrating key successes.
