Matthew Enns, D.D.S., a graduate of Loma Linda University School of Dentistry (LLUSD), has a strong concern and dedication to others, which has been evident throughout his time at LLUSD. As a result, Dr. Enns was recently honored by the American Dental Association (ADA) and the American Student Dental Association (ASDA) and the Pierre Fauchard Academy for his strong commitment to public service and dental care for the underprivileged.
Shortly before his graduation from LLUSD, Dr. Enns was the honored recipient of a student scholarship award at the annual luncheon for the Southern California Section of the Pierre Fauchard Academy. Six months earlier, Dr. Enns was honored by the ADA and ASDA at their annual meeting in New Orleans. He received the Academy of Dentistry International Terry Tanaka Award, given to one senior dental student in the United States each year during the ASDA meetings.
At the start of his freshman year, Dr. Enns helped reorganize and run The Homeless Clinic Riverside at the Calvary Presbyterian Church Dental Clinic in Riverside, CA, that uses the LLUSD’s Mobile Clinic and now treats over 40 patients per quarter. Dr. Enns helped to reorganize the Compassion Clinic at the Blessing Center, a non-profit charitable aid organization in Redlands, CA, that was treating indigent patients two to three times each quarter. Under his direction, the Compassion Clinic now treats 35 patients per week and has a waiting list of 950. Dr. Enns continues to coordinate the other student volunteers and has been able to get another clinic open for more urgent needs requiring oral surgery.
His first international mission trip was a 10-day service learning trip to Nicaragua in the summer of 2011. Since then, as a student representative, Dr. Enns has helped to plan and organize the trips each year and acquire supplies for those efforts.
Dr. Enns is currently working on a residency at LLUSD in Advanced Specialty Education Program for Implant Dentistry.
