David A. Felton, D.D.S., M.S., Dean of the West Virginia University School of Dentistry (WVU SOD), has stepped down and returned to a faculty position within the university system. Dr. Felton served as Dean for three years and will now serve as a Professor in the Department of Restorative Dentistry.
“Dr. Felton made important contributions to the School of Dentistry during his tenure as Dean,” says Health Sciences Chancellor Christopher Colenda, M.D., M.P.H. “He raised awareness of the dynamic relationship between oral health and general health, and advocated on behalf of the school and the dental professions with state and federal officials.”
As Dean, Dr. Felton was a clinician-educator who regularly attended student clinics while maintaining his own faculty practice. He serves as an examiner of the American Board of Prosthodontics.
“Under his leadership, the school expanded its class size, making dental education available to a larger group of future professionals,” Dr. Colenda says. He also established the school’s new clinical facilities in Suncrest Town Centre.
Anthony T. Borgia, D.D.S., Assistant Professor and Chair of the Department of Endodontics at WVU SOD, has been appointed Interim Dean of the school.
