Maureen McAndrew, D.D.S., M.S.Ed., has been awarded the 2014 American Dental Association (ADA) Golden Apple Award for Inspiring Careers in Dental Education by the Council on Dental Education and Licensure. The award will be presented at the 2014 ADA Meeting in San Antonio, TX, in October 2014.
Dr. McAndrew is a Clinical Professor and Senior Director of Professional Development at New York University College of Dentistry (NYUCD). She received her D.D.S. from NYUCD and an M.S.Ed. from Baruch College, City University of New York, NY. Dr. McAndrew is the course director for the Practicum in Clinical Teaching for fourth-year dental students with an interest in academia and teaches Introduction to Pedagogy to all postgraduate students. She also teaches Restorative Dentistry and Practice Management. Inducted into the NYU Academy of Distinguished Educators in 2011, Dr. McAndrew serves on its Executive Board. She is the Faculty Advisor for the NYUCD ADEA chapter and Student Activities Chair for Omicron Kappa Upsilon Honor Society. She serves on the Journal of Dental Education Editorial Review Board and as Chair of the ADEA Section on Educational Research Development and Curriculum.
The Golden Apple Award for Inspiring Careers in Dental Education recognizes members and/or faculty members who are outstanding mentors willing to share their knowledge to enhance the scholarly, professional and personal development of aspiring and emerging dental faculty. The ADA believes that outstanding mentors play a key role in guiding students toward careers in academic dentistry. Mentors are critical to developing confident, competent and ethical educators and practitioners.
