One of the many benefits of ADEA’s collaboration with the Association of American Medical Colleges on MedEdPORTAL is the discovery of new research and learning modalities that enrich our educational acumen.
Earlier this year, MedEdPORTAL published, “Implementing a Digital Case Study as a Clinical Assessment Tool in Dental and Allied Dental Education,” a paper discussing the use of the ADPIED assessment tool. The ADPIED (Assessment, Diagnosis, Plan, Implementation, Evaluation and Documentation) assessment tool is designed to help faculty implement a digital case study as an assessment tool in a clinical dental or allied dental course. The ADPIED is also recognized as a model for promoting critical thinking and clinical judgment. The case study module was adapted to meet the needs of students who had completed preclinical courses and whose learning needs were related to synthesizing preclinical theory with clinical experiences.
