The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) is accepting applications for the Faculty Loan Repayment Program (FLRP). The purpose of the FLRP is to increase the recruitment and retention of faculty from disadvantaged backgrounds in eligible health professions disciplines with health professions degrees or certificates. For fiscal year 2010, an additional $2.5 million is available for pediatric dentists. Applications will be accepted until 5:00 p.m. Eastern time, April 22, 2010.
Qualified faculty can receive as much as $40,000 toward repayment of student loans in exchange for educating tomorrow's clinicians. Individuals selected for the program agree to serve on the faculty of an accredited health professions college or university for two years. In return, the U.S. government will pay up to $40,000 of the participant's student loans and provide funds to offset the tax burden. Participants should receive matching funds from their employing educational institution.
For more information or to begin the application process, visit the FLRP website or contact HRSA at 800-221-9393. Applicants with full-time employment at eligible health professions schools will be funded first. Remaining funds will be distributed to applicants with part-time employment at eligible health professions schools.
