Registration Now Open for the Quality Improvement & Patient Safety Faculty IPEC Institute

IPEC_2014IPEC is pleased to announce the next Quality Improvement and Patient Safety Interprofessional Faculty Development Institute, taking place January 12-15, 2014, at the Dulles Hyatt in Herndon, VA.

The overall goal is to create faculty champions to enhance interprofessional curricula and student learning experiences in quality improvement and patient safety at the point of care, through team-focused activities designing an institutional-based project. 

Each team should designate a single team organizer who will be responsible for submitting contact and discipline information on behalf of the entire team, including credit card payment in full for all team members. Note that registration is accepted by team only and cannot be processed without complete information and payment. The team organizer should be designated and prepared to register and submit payment for all of their team members at the point of registration.

The team must include at least one member well-versed in QI/PS, one member (two preferred) representing an IPEC profession (dentistry, medicine, nursing, pharmacy or public health), and one member who is in a position to affect curricular changes at the home institution.

DATES – The Institute will begin at 8:00 a.m. on Monday, January 13, 2014. (Participants should arrive Sunday, January 12, 2014.) The institute will conclude by noon Wednesday, January 15, 2014. 

REGISTRATION AND HOTEL FEES – The registration fee per participant is $1,095, which includes registration and materials, hotel for three nights at the Dulles Hyatt, and breakfast and lunch meals. All teams must lodge at the conference hotel.

INSTITUTE PURPOSE – To facilitate teams in developing an institutional-based project to undertake interprofessional curricular change in their home institutions. Through guided experiences and resource utilization, teams will create an implementable action plan to advance projects focused on improving learner competence and skills in quality improvement and patient safety through an interprofessional learning model. 

TEAM COMPOSITION – 3 to 5 members with at least:

  • one member well-versed in QI/PS,
  • one member representing an IPEC profession, (two IPEC professions preferred), and
  • one member in a position to affect curricular change.

The Interprofessional Education Collaborative (IPEC) is a national organization that focuses on better integrating and coordinating the education of nurses, physicians, dentists, pharmacists, public health professionals, and other members of the patient health care team to provide more collaborative and patient-centered care. The founding members include the American Association of Colleges of Nursing, the American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine, the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy, the American Dental Education Association, the Association of American Medical Colleges, and the Association of Schools of Public Health.
