ADEA is pleased to announce an innovative educational debt management resource designed to help promote responsible borrowing and loan repayment for dental students and alumni. In collaboration with the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC), ADEA has developed the AAMC/ADEA Dental Loan Organizer and Calculator (AAMC/ADEA DLOC).

The only web-based calculator of its kind designed specifically for dental students, the AAMC/ADEA DLOC is designed to help dental school borrowers easily organize and track their loans and run repayment scenarios based on their career plans after graduation—including any plans for advanced dental education work.

“ADEA is pleased to collaborate with the AAMC on this interprofessional initiative,” says ADEA President and CEO Richard W. Valachovic, D.M.D., M.P.H. “It is essential that we continue to educate dental students on debt management, and provide them with tools such as the Dental Loan Organizer and Calculator to help them manage their debt.”

Dental school deans and financial aid officers are encouraged to include this new resource as part of the educational debt management program.

To demonstrate how this new resource can help student borrowers—and administrators in their counseling efforts—ADEA and AAMC are offering a DLOC webinar on Wednesday, August 21, at 2:00 p.m. Eastern

To register, please visit https://www4.gotomeeting.com/register/247536839. After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the webinar.

ADEA has also developed an AAMC/ADEA DLOC Fact Sheet for students, highlighting the benefits of the resource and tips to get started.

The AAMC/ADEA Dental Loan Organizer and Calculator (DLOC) is modeled after AAMC’s Medloans® Organizer and Calculator (MLOC), first introduced in 2010 as a tool for medical school students and residents. As of June 2013, more than 12,000 users—most of whom are current medical students or recent graduates—have stored information on nearly 113,000 loans.

“Debt management is an important issue for health professions students. Like the Medloans Organizer and Calculator, this valuable tool is a step forward in equipping dental school students—and potentially health students in every field—with an online organizer and calculator for managing their loans,” says Darrell G. Kirch, M.D., AAMC president and CEO. “The AAMC is pleased to collaborate with ADEA to provide all currently enrolled dental school students with this service.”
