 Boston University Welcomes Dr. Woosung Sohn 

Boston University Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine (GSDM) has announced the appointment of Woosung Sohn, D.D.S., Ph.D., Dr.P.H., as the school’s new Director of the Division of Dental Public Health and as Program Director of the Advanced Education Program in Dental Public Health.

Dr. Sohn is a graduate of Yonsei University in Seoul, Korea, and of the University of Michigan School of Public Health, where he received his Dr.P.H. degree. He came to GSDM from the University of Michigan where he held a joint faculty appointment as Associate Professor at the School of Dentistry and Director of the Dental Public Health Program in the Department of Epidemiology at the School of Public Health. He is also a Diplomate of the American Board of Dental Public Health and was a Fellow of the ADEA Leadership Institute in 2009-2010. He is also a member of the Editorial Board of the Journal of Public Health Dentistry and a member of the Advisory Board of Community Dentistry and Oral Epidemiology.

 Dr. Rekow Appointed Dean of King’s College London Dental Institute 

Dianne Rekow, D.D.S., Ph.D., M.B.A., has recently been appointed Dean of the Dental Institute at King’s College London. Before her new position overseas as head of the largest dental academic center in the United Kingdom, Dr. Rekow had been serving as Senior Vice Provost of Engineering and Technology at New York University (NYU) and Provost of Polytechnic Institute of NYU.

Dr. Rekow joined NYU in 2002 as Professor of Orthodontics and of Basic Science and Craniofacial Biology. An international authority on the performance of new materials and products for use in aesthetic and restorative dentistry, her team has carried out research into the use of bio-engineered tissue to facilitate the growth of replacement bone in people who have been disfigured by disease. She was the principal investigator for a $10 million National Institute of Health grant to investigate damage initiation and propagation in brittle materials. She is currently president of the International Association for Dental Research and past president of the American Association for Dental Research.
