ADEA Member and a Patient Share Story with WebMD
Dr. Maria Emanuel Ryan and her patient Ms. Joanne Maglares shared the dramatic story of oral health problems foreshadowing Ms. Maglares’s heart attack with millions through the WebMD website. The patient expected a routine repair of a broken tooth, but assessment showed multiple tooth fractures and rapidly advancing periodontal disease. "Those were red flags that something was not right," said Dr. Ryan, who is Professor of Oral Biology and pathology at Stony Brook University School of Dental Medicine, as well as Chair of the ADEA Section on Oral Biology.
