With so many great educational options, you may have trouble choosing which sessions at the 2011 ADEA Annual Session & Exhibition to attend. Let us take the guesswork out of planning your schedule by pointing out which meetings and programs were designed specifically for you!
Sessions featuring the importance of effective teaching and learning
The ADEA Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTLfest)-designated sessions focus on the value of teaching, methods of assessment and reward, and the experience of students and educators. Preregister for and attend one of the two required Presidential Symposia and three other SoTLfest events, and you can be eligible for an ADEA SoTLfest Certificate of Recognition.
Each day there are several sessions to choose from, and many incorporate this year's theme of interprofessional education. Models and methods of interprofessional education are a focus of the SoTLfest track, as well as assessment, clinical instruction, and teaching effectiveness.
Sessions for the ADEA Commission on Change and Innovation in Dental Education (ADEA CCI)
This track features sessions on interprofessional education, improving patient care, learning exercises, and strategies for curriculum change. The purpose of these sessions is to provide leadership for a collaborative process of innovative change in the education of general dentists so they enter the workforce ready to meet the oral health needs of the public.
Meetings that focus on the role of research in dental schools
Learn how other institutions value research and balance it with service and patient care. Each day there are sessions dedicated to the role of research, such as a program on teaching faculty how to conduct interprofessional clinical research, a Lunch & Learn event with an overview of the Consortium for Oral Health Related Informatics (COHRI), a New Idea Session focusing on a toolkit for clinical research, and the ADEA Presidential Symposium "Point/Counterpoint" event on the establishment of new dental schools.
Meetings for the ADEA Leadership Institute Alumni Association (ADEA LIAA)
Sessions for ADEA Leadership Institute alumni focus on identifying future leaders, service learning, the cost of a dental education, interprofessional teaching and learning, advocacy, the art of the case note, technology, graduate surveys, clinic outreach, and many more critical topics. The ADEA LIAA is comprised of graduates of the ADEA Leadership Institute, beginning with the inaugural class of 2000. The purpose of this track is to further the leadership development of ADEA LIAA alumni by promoting communication and networking.
