Best Networking in Dental Education, Bar None
The 2011 ADEA Annual Session & Exhibition is one of the most cost-effective and efficient ways to help you grow as a dental educator and establish a priceless professional network. This year in San Diego, California, an expected 2,000 attendees will interact and share ideas as they experience educational sessions approved for Continuing Education credits, visit more than 60 companies in the exhibit hall, and listen to four nationally recognized speakers at plenary sessions.
If you need help communicating these benefits to administrators at your institution, check out ADEA's tools and templates for communicating the importance of your attendance.
An Exciting, Informative Program
This year's theme of "Interprofessional Education: Teaching and Learning Together for Better Health" weaves its way through symposia, section programs, Faculty Development Workshops, and Lunch & Learns. The plenary sessions feature speakers who cross boundaries with their ideas, from Mr. Frans Johansson's journey to "The Intersection" of ideas where extraordinary innovation takes place, to Ms. Anya Kamenetz's discussion of technical innovations that will challenge basic assumptions in U.S. and Canadian higher education.
In the ADEA Political Spotlight is Mr. Michael E. Murphy, a political strategist and analyst who has handled strategy and advertising for more than 26 successful senatorial and gubernatorial campaigns. And for the ever-popular Discourse and Dessert, ADEA will welcome the U.S. Surgeon General, Dr. Regina M. Benjamin, who will share her unique perspective on the opportunities continuing to unfold for women and minorities as well as the challenges faced on her own path to achievement.
There are hundreds of educational sessions that directly apply to every faculty member's experience and knowledge level. Peruse the program today to identify topics of interest and relevance, and then visit the registration page to secure your spot at the 2011 ADEA Annual Session & Exhibition.
Intensive Short Sessions to Enhance Your Teaching Skills
One of the best ways to engage with fellow educators and hone your teaching skills is by participating in one of the 20 Faculty Development Workshops (FDWs). With topics like "Evaluating Knowledge and Communication Skills: The Oral Exam" and "Focus on Facilitation: Let's Limit the Lecturing!," you're sure to come away with new tools and strategies. There are even FDWs formulated with new educators in mind. View the preliminary schedule with workshop descriptions at www.adea.org/2011annualsession/Pages/FacultyDevelopmentWorkshops.aspx.
These three-hour workshops are offered each day of the 2011 ADEA Annual Session & Exhibition, but space is filling fast, so reserve your spot today! Advance registration is required, and each workshop costs $89 for members and $169 for nonmembers.
Also returning this year is SoTLfest, promoting the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL). SoTLfest sessions are denoted throughout the 2011 ADEA Annual Session & Exhibition website and program by the SoTLfest logo appearing next to the title of the educational session. These sessions have been selected primarily based on how well they met the Glassick criteria for scholarship, and because they describe best practices in teaching and assessment, plus how they contribute to the learning experience.
Participants in ADEA SoTLfest are eligible for recognition when they register in advance; attend one of the two of the required ADEA symposia, Interprofessional Teaching and Learning: Scholarship for Better Health, or Introducing Interprofessional Education to Dentistry and Dentistry to Interprofessional Education; and attend three other SoTLfest-designated events.
