Dr. Stephen K. Young Installed as ADEA Incoming President-Elect

Stephen K. Young, D.D.S., M.S., Dean of the University of Oklahoma College of Dentistry, was installed as the American Dental Education Association (ADEA) President-elect on March 21 at the 2012 ADEA Annual Session & Exhibition in Orlando, Florida. He will spend a year as ADEA President-elect and become ADEA Chair of the Board at the conclusion of the 2013 ADEA Annual Session & Exhibition in Seattle, Washington, March 16-19.

During the March 2012 ADEA House of Delegates meeting, a resolution was approved that changed the titles of the officers of the Association.  The title of the chief elected officer of the ADEA Board of Directors has been changed to the Chair of the Board, and the title of the incoming chief elected officer has been changed to Chair-elect of the Board. The title of the chief appointed officer, currently Executive Director, was changed to President and CEO.  The titles of the Vice Presidents on the Board were changed to Board Directors. These title changes will become effective at the conclusion of the 2013 ADEA Annual Session & Exhibition.

With a 36-year long tenure at the University of Oklahoma College of Dentistry, Dr. Young has been involved in the full spectrum of academic dentistry from Professor to Department Chair to Dean. He is committed to increasing opportunities for faculty development as an integral part of the success of dental education.  

Dr. Young graduated from the University of Missouri - Kansas City School of Dentistry. He attended the University of Michigan School of Dentistry, where he received a Master’s Degree in Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology. Dr. Young is a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology. 

Dr. Young previously served as an ADEA representative to the Joint Commission on Dental National Examinations and American Dental Association (ADA) Council on Dental Education and Licensure, also serving both groups as Chair. He currently serves as Chair of the ADEA Commission on Change and Innovation (ADEA CCI), which builds consensus among all stakeholders in dental education, research, and practice by providing leadership to a systemic, collaborative, and continuous process of innovative change in the education of general dentists.
