New Oral and Maxillofacial Fellowship Available

The Oral Facial Surgery Institute in St. Louis, Missouri, has announced that applications are now open for the Oral and Maxillofacial Fellowship 2012-13. This advanced accredited opportunity is a year of hospital-based oral and maxillofacial surgery (OMFS) centered at St. John’s Mercy Medical Center, a level-one trauma center located in suburban St. Louis.

Maryland Alumni Establish Scholarship Endowment

Several alumni from the University of Maryland School of Dentistry (UMSOD) recently established a scholarship fund to support UMSOD students. Drs. Bradley Trattner and Adam Eisner, trustees of the Baltimore alumni chapter of dental fraternity Alpha Omega, joined Drs. Todd Sarubin and Arthur Goldvarg in donating $100,000 to the school. The gift created the Baltimore Alumni Chapter of Alpha Omega Endowment Fund.

Pacific Center for Special Care Awarded $2.1 Million State Oral Health Workforce Grant

The Pacific Center for Special Care at the University of the Pacific Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry recently received a $2.1 million grant from the California Department of Public Health for a Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA)-funded state oral health workforce project. This is the second of two such HRSA grants awarded to the Pacific Center for Special Care for a total funding of $4 million.

Delta Dental Grant Supports IU Sealant Program for Underserved Children

The Delta Dental Foundation has given the Indiana University (IU) School of Dentistry a $50,000 grant to operate the university’s Seal Indiana mobile program. The initiative brings vital preventative dental care to Indiana children in key underserved areas while enabling dental students to help alleviate disparities in access to healthcare. Gifts from the foundation to the school now total $250,000.

RWJF Expands Harold Amos Medical Faculty Development Program to Include Dentistry

One of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation’s longest running national programs, the Harold Amos Medical Faculty Development Program (AMFDP), will offer support to dental scholars starting with its 2012 application period. For more than 25 years,  AMFDP has fostered diversity among U.S. medical school faculty, and that well-known program will now work to do the same among dental school faculty.
