2012 ADEA PASS Application Cycle Includes Multidimensional Applicant Assessment

When the 2012 ADEA PASS application cycle opens on May 18, 2011, it will include a tool that provides a more complete picture of an applicant's potential for success in an advanced dental education program—beyond grades, test scores, and recommendation letters. The new tool (which has demonstrated validity and utility in predicting success in graduate-level programs) collects and shares information about an applicant's strengths through non-cognitive measures.

ADEA/FADEA: Working Together to Improve the Selection Process

The ADEA Future of Advanced Dental Education Admissions (ADEA/FADEA) Project focuses on offering guidance and tools to support program directors in the postdoctoral dental education admissions environment. An initial survey of 714 advanced education program directors gathered information on current admissions practices and perceptions of existing and possible new factors in the process.

In this session representatives from the University of Michigan, University of Illinois at Chicago, and Howard University dental schools discussed their experience using ADEA’s ExploreHealthCareers.org as a tool for online mentoring. These three pilot projects from ADEA and the W.K. Kellogg Foundation shared the challenges and successes that accompany an online mentoring program. Marita R. Inglehart, Ph.D., from the University of Michigan, spoke about the successful collaboration of ExploreHealthCareers.org with a mentoring program for high school students in an area that lacks access to dental care.

Put on the Path to Dentistry at the Second Annual Predental Students and Advisors Fair

In its second consecutive year, the ADEA Workshop and Recruitment Fair for Predental Students and Advisors swelled to nearly 500 attendees. High school and undergraduate students were able to take a preliminary step toward a hopeful future in dentistry.

The Road to Collaboration is Paved With Good Intentions: Challenges Developing an Interprofessional Education Framework at NYU College of Dentistry

The idea of bringing New York University’s (NYU) nursing program into the College of Dentistry initially met with skepticism on both sides. In addition to the usual barriers to interprofessional education, NYU would have to overcome the fact that the Colleges of Dentistry and Nursing are more than a mile and a half apart, a significant distance given Manhattan traffic.
