The Maurice H. Kornberg School of Dentistry, Temple University, is launching Project ENGAGE, a $1.75 million initiative designed to improve children’s access to oral health care.

Apply for the Dental Pipeline Learning Institute 2013 Cohort

In 2013, the Dental Pipeline National Learning Institute will award funding and resources to 10 dental school community partnerships to develop projects focused on community-based dental education or recruitment of underrepresented minority dental students. Eligible partnerships include one representative from a dental school and one from a community-partner organization. By participating in the Dental Pipeline National Learning Institute schools can enhance the diversity of their students, improve the education of dental students, grow national leaders, and improve the oral health of the country.

Higginbotham, M.D., featured speaker at the 2013 ADEA Annual Session & Exhibition Evening Plenary on Gender Issues: Discourse and Dessert, touched on all these topics and even questioned Sheryl Sandberg’s advice while her audience indulged in after-dinner treats.

New Dental Learning Program to Focus on Minority Students

ADEA, in partnership with the University of the Pacific Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry, has launched the Dental Pipeline National Learning Institute (Dental Pipeline NLI) and selected the first 11 dental schools selected to participate in the program.

On February 22nd, Congressman Elijah E. Cummings (MD-7) convened an event at the University of Maryland School of Law to honor Deamonte Driver, whose tragic death at age 12 provided the catalyst for long needed action on children's access to oral health care. Legislators and others in Maryland have made significant strides in this area, with Congressman Cummings and Senators Ben Cardin and Barbara Mikulski taking the lead at the national level.
