NYU Receives Its Largest NIH Grant to Create Research Network in Dental Practices

New York University College of Dentistry has received a $26.7 million award from the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research (NIDCR) to establish a regional “practice-based” research network over the next seven years. The innovative research approach—networking dental offices in research projects—will enable greater scientific rigor to be brought to everyday issues in the practice and delivery of oral health care. This is one of the largest grants ever made by the NIDCR and the largest NIH grant ever received by NYU.

New UIC Program Launches External Rotations for Four-Year Students

The University of Illinois at Chicago College of Dentistry has launched a new program involving extramural rotations—patient care outside the college in community clinics—for its fourth-year dental students. Funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF), the program operates under a $1.5 million grant.

Howard College of Dentistry Opens New Clinic and Simulation Lab

The Howard University College of Dentistry, located in Washington, DC, has opened a new, state-of-the-art simulation laboratory and new 46-unit clinical facility. The lab, with 45 stationery student stations managed by one instructor, utilizes a multimedia teaching system that allows the display of a sizeable volume of information or images to be viewed by a large number of students.
