More than two-thirds of dentists lose days of practice each year because of unavoidable muscular-skeletal pain. University of Maryland Baltimore College of Dental Surgery Dean Christian S. Stohler has launched an initiative to bring renewed attention to ergonomics to dental education.
Dr. Nabil F. Bissada, Professor and Chair of the Department of Periodontics at Case Western Reserve University School of Dental Medicine, received the American Academy of Periodontology's (AAP) 2010 Outstanding Periodontal Educator Award. According to the organization, the award "recognizes an exemplary periodontal faculty member who is an inspiration to students whose career demonstrates excellence."
New Instrument to Assess EBD Training: Mr. Hendricson et al. report on the validation of an assessment instrument designed to measure the outcomes of training in evidence-based dentistry (EBD), based on the responses of second-year dental students, residents, and dental faculty members. This instrument goes beyond the usual limited focus in EBD assessment on comprehension of concepts to assess the effects of training in four areas: knowledge, attitudes, information accessing, and confidence.
