2019 ADEA AADSAS Fee Assistance Program Instructions
Welcome to the 2019 ADEA AADSAS® Fee Assistance
Program (FAP). The following is information about eligibility, required documents
and instructions for applying.

Applicants can start submitting requests to receive 2019 ADEA AADSAS
ADEA AADSAS FAP assists students who demonstrate extreme
financial need while applying to ADEA AADSAS. The program, offered by the
American Dental Education Association, is not affiliated with any government,
college or university, scholarship, grant or fellowship program. Approval for
fee assistance is at the sole discretion of ADEA AADSAS.
This year, the 2019 ADEA AADSAS application will open 3 weeks early on May 15 to give applicants three weeks to work on their applications before
the cycle opens on June 5. Applicants to the 2019 ADEA AADSAS FAP can submit requests
starting on May 15. To submit documents to the ADEA AADSAS FAP for review, applicants
must first create a 2019 ADEA AADSAS account and receive their CAS identification
Applicants submitting a request for fee assistance in May, during the early opening of the 2019 ADEA AADSAS application, will not receive a decision from ADEA AADSAS FAP until June 5, 2018.

How much support does the ADEA AADSAS FAP provide if I qualify?
For the 2019 ADEA AADSAS FAP cycle, the program will provide
$449 in fee assistance to approved applicants. This amount will cover the first
three dental school designations on your ADEA AADSAS application (the first
school at $245 plus two additional schools at $102 each). Once approved, the
applicant must submit the ADEA AADSAS application within 14 calendar days to
receive the fee assistance.
How do I become eligible for the 2019 ADEA AADSAS FAP?
- The applicant, parent/guardian and spouse must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents.
- The applicant, parent/guardian and/or spouse’s income must not exceed 200% of the 2017 U.S. Poverty Guidelines.
- Applicants born after January 1, 1993 must submit their own, their parents/guardians, and their spouses' 2017 1040 tax returns, W2s/1099s and Schedule A forms (if itemizing deductions).
- Applicants born before January 1, 1993 must submit their own and their spouses' 2017 1040 tax returns, W2s/1099s and Schedule A forms (if itemizing deductions).
- Carefully read and follow all of the
2019 ADEA AADSAS FAP Instructions and mail the
2019 ADEA AADSAS FAP Cover Form with all required supporting documents. Any documents received without the 2019 ADEA AADSAS FAP Cover Form will not be processed.
Fee Assistance Program is awarded on a first-come, first-served basis, and applicants are encouraged to apply early, well in advance of the dental school deadlines. Applicants who submit an ADEA AADSAS application prior to receiving notification of approval for fee assistance will
What are the required and supporting documents?
Mail copies of all required and supporting documents (please do not send originals) to ADEA AADSAS FAP as indicated on the 2019 FAP Cover Form. You have only one opportunity to submit the FAP Cover Form and all required supporting documents. All required documents must be received in
one packet, at one time. If you submit your documents without the proper documentation, including the FAP Cover Form, you will be denied for FAP. For questions, please contact FAPAADSAS@adea.org.
The ADEA AADSAS FAP packet must contain the following:
ADEA AADSAS FAP Cover Form (If this document is not attached to the required supporting documents, your request for fee assistance will be denied).
- Copies of 2017 Federal Income Tax Returns (including the 1040 tax forms, W2s and 1099s) for self, parent/guardian and/or spouse if married.
- Financial Aid Award Notice from the institution.
- 2019 ADEA AADSAS FAP Income Verification Form.
If the applicant, parent/guardian and/or spouse did not work during the 2017 tax year, and none of the required financial supporting documents are available, the applicant must write a letter of explanation.
Please be advised: As with all aspects of the ADEA AADSAS application, it is expected that applicants for fee assistance will not misrepresent themselves. Reporting false information or submitting forged documents could result in the cancellation of your ADEA AADSAS application and
notification sent to all dental schools. Be sure to verify that all information and documents provided for the FAP application are valid and accurate.
Other types of verification documents
The following documents may be sent to ADEA AADSAS FAP
to help determine eligibility for FAP if you do not have any of the tax forms
or other required documents. Documents must be accompanied by the 2019 ADEA
AADSAS FAP Cover Form and a letter from the appropriate agency.
- Child support payments
- Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)
- Proof of Social
- Proof of Veterans' benefits
- Proof of Workers’ Compensation benefits
- Proof of housing, food and other living allowances
Processing time and status
Once the ADEA
AADSAS FAP receives an applicant’s FAP Cover Form and required supporting documents, the standard processing time is four to five business days.
Applicants who submit an ADEA AADSAS application prior to receiving notification of approval for fee assistance will be ineligible.

approved: You must complete the 2019 ADEA AADSAS application, designate three dental schools and select credit card as your method of payment (you will not have to use your credit card).
**NOTE: Once you are approved for fee assistance, you have 14 calendar days to submit the 2019 ADEA AADSAS application to receive the fee assistance.**
denied: You must complete the ADEA AADSAS application through the standard process.
