Session Formats
60-minute Seminars (Theater seating max 66, 96, 105, and 170)
- No more than 2 co-speakers plus 1 one moderator
A 60-minute seminar addresses one critical issue, technique, or model in a clear and concise manner that is easy for the audience to understand. The topic may be presented in broad overview or focused in more detail on no more than three aspects of the topic. It should not attempt to cover “A to Z” for any subject. Time dedicated to Q&A from the audience is limited, if at all possible.
90-minute Seminars (Theater seating max 96, 170, and 200)
- No more than 3 co-speakers plus 1 moderator
A 90-minute seminar provides the audience with an opportunity to delve more deeply into a topic than would be possible during a 60-minute seminar. The audience will learn about an issue (or a set of closely related issues) that is of immediate relevance and importance to dental education. A 90-minute seminar addresses the details of one or more solutions, techniques, or models that are innovative or based on current best practices. Twenty minutes is traditionally dedicated to Q&A from the audience.
60-minute Workshops (Crescent rounds for 6 participants per table max 30 and 48)
- No more than 2 co-speakers plus 1 moderator
A 60-minute workshop is designed as an experiential and interactive learning opportunity for participants. Participants are guided by the speakers in collaborating with one another to solve problems, share ideas, role play, or generate answers to “how-to” questions. Speakers are expected to launch activities with minimal lecturing or presentation, and a maximum of 10 minutes is dedicated to wrap-up speaker and participant Q&A.
90-minute Workshops (Crescent rounds for 6 participants per table max 24, 30, 36, 72)
- No more than 3 co-speakers plus 1 moderator
A 90-minute workshop is an engaging and highly collaborative learning experience facilitated by no more than three leaders. Provocative questions, examples, and case studies presented by the speaker/leader(s) guide the participants through a process of considering new ideas, perspectives, and techniques. Robust discussion with presentation and Q&A flowing throughout the workshop is common.
45-minute Small Group Discussions Lounge seating max 10)
- No more than 1 conversation leader
A 45-minute small group discussions is less structured yet informative learning experience centered on a single specific and timely topic, question, or issue facing dental education today. The small group discussion session is held in a less traditional educational setting to help create a comfortable environment that encourages all participants to freely discuss their ideas, ask questions, and contribute.
