 2010 ADEA Annual Session & Exhibition

  • Takes place Saturday, February 27, through Wednesday, March 3, at the Gaylord National Hotel and Convention Center just outside Washington, DC
  • The premier networking and educational event each year for academic dental institutions and the dental education community
  • Nearly 2,000 people attended last year’s event; similar number expected this year 
    • More than 50% are faculty members at academic dental institutions
    • About a quarter are administrators
    • Also attending: students, ADEA corporate members, exhibitors, representatives of foundations and dental and higher education associations

  • In 2009, 19% were first-time attendees 
  • This year, more than 100 educational sessions, many reflecting the theme of “Assessment: Portraits of Change” 
    • Three Presidential Symposia focus on student assessment, faculty assessment, and changing institutional culture through planning and assessment
    • Other symposia address leading change and innovation, mentoring, ethical dilemmas, and emerging workforce models
    • Additional programming in a variety of formats, including Faculty Development Workshops, Lunch and Learns, and short New Idea Sessions

  • Nationally known speakers address attendees in plenary sessions 
    • Artist Chris Jordan following the Opening Ceremony
    • News anchor J.C. Hayward at the ADEA Evening Plenary on Gender Issues
    • NPR correspondent Mara Liasson at the ADEA Political Spotlight
    • Web and social media consultant Amber MacArthur at the “Portrait of the Future” Plenary

  • The ADEA Workshop and Recruitment Fair for Predental Students and Advisors is a free introduction to what dental school is all about; it takes place Saturday, February 27, 2010, 10:00 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.
  • Programming organized by the ADEA Annual Session Program Committee, composed of 13 volunteers from across the dental education community, with the assistance of more than 100 volunteer peer reviewers
  • More than 60 companies and educational institutions will exhibit on Monday, March 1, and Tuesday, March 2
  • This is the 87th year for the ADEA Annual Session & Exhibition, first held in 1924 in Chicago
  • Register in advance online at www.adea.org on or by February 19; after that, registration is on site only
